AARON MICHAEL SECKMAN

An Illinois native, born in the town of Rushville in 1976, Aaron Seckman has studied art his entire life. It is a passion that is not an optional activity, but a vital driving force sustaining his spirit and fueling his growth as a human being. In earning his Bachelor's degree he studied both fine art and music recording. After pursuing an audio engineering career after college, in 2005 he realized that his first love would never let him live in peace as a past-time and he dedicated himself to rigorous study of drawing and painting from life. In Chicago, he became a member of the Palette and Chisel Academy and studied figure drawing and painting independently, receiving a Community Arts Assistance Program (CAAP) Grant from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs for the creation of an original work. After moving to New York City later that year he enrolled in the Monday night painted sketch class of Rick Piloco at the Grand Central Academy of Art and then in 2008 began studying in Dan Thompson's drawing class at the Art Students League of New York. In 2009 he began painting five nights a week in Dan's painting class and in 2010 was awarded a class monitor scholarship. He has received two Blue Dot honorable mentions during Concourse Exhibitions at the League. His instruction at the League also includes drawing with Jon deMartin, Michael Grimaldi and Brandon Soloff and drawing and écorché with Frank Porcu and Paul Oestreicher. At this point in his career he is working to develop his unique point of view as a representational artist by building a body of work that expresses his emotional connection to the world around him and his appreciation for both nature and the realist/classical tradition of drawing and painting.
